Ecological and Habitat Improvement Work

Peel have entered into a legal agreement with the Local Authorities to provide funding for the enhancement of the local environment and wildlife habitats on up to 500ha of land within the surrounding area.

A Habitat Enhancement Plan (HEP) has been prepared by Peel and in association with the RSPB. Over £400,000 will be made available by Peel to local landowners over the lifetime of the wind farm through the HEP. This funding will be used to encourage and assist landowners in creating bio-diverse habitats. A prime target habitat envisaged to be enhanced and re-created under the HEP is upland blanket bog and important habitats for skylarks and wading birds on the moorland fringe.

To receive funding, landowners within an identified area will need to apply to a Panel of representatives who will decide on individual landowner applications and the possible allocation of available funds. The Panel will be made up from representatives from Peel, the Local Authorities and independent ecological experts who will meet regularly throughout the year.

Further information on the fund and how those interested can apply for it is available here >>
